Kanu to declare no election in Southeast Nigeria without Biafra referendum

 
The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, has warned that elections would be boycotted in the South East states starting with the Anambra State gubernatorial elections scheduled for November 18 if the Federal Government fails to hold referendum for the realisation of the state of Biafra.

Kanu, who is facing charges of treasonable felony at the Federal High Court in Abuja, has been at the vanguard of the call for an independent Biafra Republic from the Nigerian state.

In granting him bail in April after more than a year in detention, Justice Nyako listed 12 conditions, including an order for Kanu to avoid being seen in a crowd of more than 10 people.

The court also instructed that Kanu desist from granting interviews or engaging in any form of rallies as part of his conditions for bail.

However, in the 16 minutes, 21 seconds video posted on Youtube, Kanu who is seen speaking to a congregation of Biafran supporters also notes that there would be no form of election in the Southeast during the 2019 general elections, stressing that he would not relent in his agitation for Biafra.

Last month, while addressing the members of the Jewish Synagogue at his residence in Isiama Afaraukwu Ibeku, Umuahia in Abia state, Southeast Nigeria, Kanu declared that the coming of the Republic of Biafra was imminent.

Similarly, Kanu had told Al Jazeera that he was not bothered about landing in trouble over his actions due to the bail conditions given to him by Justice Binta Nyako of an Abuja Division of the High Court.

Acting President meets State Governors over North & South-East groups ethnic agitations

 

Acting President Yemi Osinbajo met with the state governors in Nigeria at the Aso Rock villa to discuss matters, especially the security situation of the country.

Speaking at a meeting with the 36 state governors in Abuja, Osinbajo told the governors that they “must ensure the security of lives and property” in their states, adding “Nigeria is indissoluble.”

The meeting which is part of a series of meetings the acting president is having with ethnic, religious and political leaders to douse tensions in the country. 

It may interest you to know that the acting president had earlier in the week, met with a cross section of leaders from the north and south-eastern part of Nigeria where they reached a number of agreements.

Osinbajo uses the meeting with all State Governors to conclude his consultative sessions in relation to recent ethnic agitations.

Gunmen kill a mobile officer in yenagoa

An unknown gunmen have killed a mobile policeman at Akenfa community in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state.

We gathered that the mobile policeman was ambushed and shot dead from behind by the gunmen.

The deceased was attached to the Mobile Division 30 of the Nigeria Police at Akenfa.

Spokesman of the Bayelsa State Police Command DSP Asinim Butswat who confirmed the incident says the incident happened last Saturday. 

He says a locally made pistol was recovered from the hoodlums after it was abandoned after one of them was shot.

RATTAWU warn against indicipline among its members

The Bayelsa State Administrative Council of the Radio, Television, Theatre and Arts Workers Union of Nigeria, RATTAWU says its attention has been drawn to reports that some members of the Union in Radio Bayelsa Chapter have purportedly set up a parallel Executive Council of the union and went ahead to announce this aberration.


State chairman of RATTAWU, David Emiebor and Secretary, Yebufura Toboulayefa in a statement say the action clearly violate rule 18 (2) of the unions constitution which states that the chapter chairman shall preside over all meetings of the chapter, sign the minutes and any other official chapter documents.

They advice the erring officers to retrace their steps and respect constituted authority, warning that the state administrative council would not tolerate indiscipline amongst its members to bring the union to disrepute.

It further advice all aggrieved members to explore constitutional means to resolve genuine grievances and avoid resorting to self help, adding that failure to heed the advice would attract appropriate sanctions on those concerned in accordance with their constitution.
