Irrigation Farming Will Tackle Unemployment Says FG


Federal Government of Nigeria has announced plans to introduce graduate irrigation farmers scheme to tackle issues of unemployment and food insecurity in the country.

Speaking during an inspection of the pilot irrigation project at Azara-Jere Gurara in Kagarko, Kaduna State, the Minister of Water Resources, Missus Sarah Ochekpe said the scheme encourages young farmers into the industry to ensure greater food production.

The minister explained that poverty can be reduced drastically in communities if mechanised and irrigated farming takes off in full scale like other countries in the world.

According to her the government has begun to invest in irrigation projects which are a more reliable way of ensuring more harvest to export and feed the country’s growing population.
