Obaseki promises to build new cities

Barely two weeks to the polls, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Godwin Obaseki, has promised to build new towns to decongest the cities.

Obaseki made the promise at the palace of the Okaevbo of Urhonigbe, Igie Amokhuo. He told the people that he would reopen the moribund Urhonigbe Rubber Plantation and acquire more land to expand the project.

The candidate said the rubber plantation would offer employment to the people, disclosing that the Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) has been signed by the governor.

Obaseki said the proposed new towns would be complemented with infrastructure and industries to give every community a sense of belonging.

The monarch said it was important for the political leaders to build trust with the people, as the only way to establish a lasting relationship.

He urged Obaseki to work towards adopting the same attitude towards a people-oriented development as the incumbent governor has done.

The governor, Adams Oshiomhole, who spoke at a rally in Eyaen, near Benin City, told the people that Obaseki would work for the people.

He dispelled rumour of his ill health and said those who want to gain power through the back door are behind the rumour.

The APC state chairman, Anselm Ojezua, who also spoke at the rally described the party as the people’s hope.

Ojezua appealed for the people’s support for the party and its candidate, adding, “Never again should we go back to Egypt.”
