Federal Government of Nigeria has tightens regulation to discourage illegal mining

Federal Government is set to tighten its regulatory frameworks aimed at minimizing illegal mining activities in the country.

Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Mines and Steel Development, Linus Awute, who stated this in an interview with Vanguard, asserted that the government is strengthening regulatory instruments to encourage diversification of the economy through the sector.

Awute noted that what has been promoting illegal mining is the granting of licences to those who lack the capacity to survive in the business.

The permanent secretary further noted that government has established a special intervention fund to address the financial needs of investors in the mining sector.
