Securities and Exchange Commission SEC has been advised to raise its investor education to check the rising stock of unclaimed dividends.
Some shareholders of Lafarge Cement WAPCO Nigeria made the called at the company's 54th Annual General Meeting AGM in Lagos.
They said that consistent education on unclaimed dividends would help to reduce the figure which had accumulated to billions of naira.
National Coordinator, Independent Shareholders Association of Nigeria ISAN,Sunny Nwosu, said that the association was against the Unclaimed Dividend Trust Fund proposed by SEC.
He also called on quoted companies to publish the list of unclaimed dividends in their books.
