Borno state Commissioner for Trade, Investment and Tourism, Asabe Vilita Bashir has said that in a bid to take advantage of Borno’s geographical location which gives it three international boundaries, the federal government, acting on representation from the state has approved the establishment of border free trade zone at Banki in Bama local government area of the state.
Asabe said that already, 500 hectare of land has been acquired for the project and the state government had paid and updated the licensing fees.
He said it had also prepared the title deed of the land, and the site has been surveyed and demarcated
She said the Ministry is however facing the problem of inability to access the acquired land due to non-payment of compensation to the owners of the affected land.
According to the Commissioner, preparation of the environmental impact assessment report of the project which started in 2003 has not been completed yet.
