Managing Director of Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company Mohammed Idris, says the company requires N5.8 billion to complete 17 ongoing power projects in Kaduna, Sokoto, Zamfara and Kebbi States.
Idris told the Minister of Power, Chinedu Nebo, who was on an inspection visit to the company on Saturday in Kaduna, that part of the money would be used to acquire metres.
He said N3.7 billion would be for ongoing projects while N2.1 billion would be used to purchase 68,000 meters for its customers.
Idris said the company now has over 318,440 customers out of which only 58 per cent have metres.
According to him, the company was making effort to supply metres to the 132,864 customers, including 14,846 others with faulty metres.
The managing director disclosed that electricity consumers in the four states were owing the company N19.87 billion as at May this year, adding that the company also generates more than N980 million revenue monthly.
In his response, Nebo said the Federal Government would provide intervention fund to the electricity distribution companies to continue with the ongoing projects.
He assured workers of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria that the government would commence the payment of their severance package within the next two weeks.
