Anenih will explain to the house how over N20bn remains largely unaccounted for

The house committee on Public Accounts has said that the former Peoples Democratic Party Board of Trustees Chairman, Tony Anenih must account for the N20bn road contracts awarded during his term as the Minister of Works.

Inconsistency was noticed by the committee reviewing the 2006 report of the Office of the Auditor-General of the Federation; it disclosed that the contracts awarded during the term of Anenih were left unaccounted.

This was disclosed by the Chairman of the committee, Solomon Olamilekan, who spoke to reporters in Abuja yesterday.
He said his committee cannot complete its investigation without summoning Anenih.

But from my research, Anenih was summoned late last year, by the committee to explain the N2.3bn contract abandoned by the contractor after collecting N1.3bn. the committee queried Anenih’s role in the issue, which the FG later paid the N1.3bn as damages to the contractor.

Anenih however, failed to appear before the committee; instead, he sent a letter to the Speaker of the House explaining his position, claiming he was innocent in the contract matter.
